light v. darkness
This is a message to everyone who needs to hear it but is too scared to listen. To those who will sit in church on Sunday and Wednesday, or go to CIY because simply “it’s the thing to do”. But just maybe, you do listen...briefly and you stick to what you’ve learned from those few sentences until that gets too hard for you, and you go back... you step out of the light, and back into the darkness. Completely ignorant of what God is trying to tell you, and he then realizes he is simply not enough for you, when he should be, so your friends and family reiterate this same message to you over and over but you are simply too scared to listen.
1 John 1:5-10
“God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.”
God. Is. Light. As Christians, we have a relationship with God. We KNOW GOD. We know LIGHT. Yet, some choose to walk in darkness. WALK. One would think, if you were to know the goodness of light yet you were in darkness you would be RUNNING back to him. You would not be walking, you would not be content in darkness, in sin. Now, that’s something I’ll never fully understand. That when we are loved by the one who made us and everything on this earth, who conquered death, and at moments we are blessed to feel the tiniest bit of heaven on earth... you still deny him? You still walk in sin?
1 John 2:15-17
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
When sin came into this world, it was not from God. God IS LIGHT. God is eternal, this world is not. So why invest your time, your focus, your love into things which will one day pass away, why be content in darkness?
1 John 2:1-2
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
This is where a lot of people go wrong. Countless times I’ve heard the phrase “Jesus forgives!” as an excuse to continue to feed into every temptation Satan throws at them. And it’s true, Jesus does forgive, but where you are wrong is that when you KNOW you’re sinning, you KNOW what you’re doing is wrong, you KNOW you’re portraying your God as something he is not, yet you continue to feed into the darkness? Like 1 John 2:3-6 says, “...Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a LIAR, and the truth is not in that person...Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
I don’t know where you are in faith right now but I do know for some of you maybe you’re scared of being wrong, maybe you’re trying to fit in, maybe this whole “Christian thing” got too much for you to handle, maybe it’s because you fell into darkness and didn’t care turning around to see God chasing after your heart. Maybe TODAY is the day you should turn around, stop feeding into the darkness my friends. Step into the light.
